perhaps its assosiated the myths of the Orthodox Church in Russia, or based upon my lack of knowledge, but I find the dark images quite rampant in Russian Art. Be it be Doestoevsky or Russian Print Art.

One other thing which mazes me is the idea of redemption through a prostitute. You find this through out Russian cultural productions.

But again Russian Art has never been short of Ostranenine!

Some say its the cold weather, lack of the "piercing rays of the setting sun", to quote Doestoevsky, and Vodka which are the cause of it.

Some attribute it to the shocks borne by the Empire after Enlightenment to the People's Tragedy of the Bolsheviks.

Be it what ever, but Russians are adept at caricaturing a picture which none can ever portray. A picture of truth laced in lie; easy to bite which pricky o swallow.
